joan with husband

Hi! I am Joan Green, the founder of TWL.

I have been married to my husband Kevin for nearly 30 years. We have three young adult children, Jordan, Jess and Jacob and live in a very diverse area of Maryland.

During my career as a multi-unit district manager which spanned most of our marriage, I have been blessed to lead a number of amazing, diverse and talented teams.

In 2020 my job was eliminated due to COVID and like so many others, I found myself reflecting on my next steps while navigating the pandemic and social unrest in our country.

I quickly realized that being a non-black woman in an interracial marriage is a blessing, a special calling and a great responsibility. Through frequent candid discussions with my family, it became clear to me that the conversation around how interracial marriages and biracial children are impacted by racsim was missing in the dialogue that we were hearing on network media.

It was then that I reached out to other women in interracial marriages. We began sharing our stories, our concerns and our thoughts about how to navigate this complex and important responsibility, and TWL was born to foster these relationships.

My personal goal and mission is to create a safe space for sharing, learning and combating racial bias within their families.
